Summary of our Accounting Program

As a Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) Certified Partner, Brighton College offers quality programs in accounting. Providing in-depth coverage of Canadian payroll and accounting principles, our accounting and payroll programs assist students in enhancing the skills and knowledge required to work in Canadian financial offices. Program participants will become familiar with today’s most popular computerized accounting software (including QuickBooks and Sage 50, formerly Simply Accounting).

The Canadian Payroll Association

Brighton College has partnered with The Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) to deliver the Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification (PCP). The CPA’s Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification is the foundation for a career in payroll. Gain an in-depth understanding of the legislative requirements to keep your organization compliant throughout the annual payroll cycle.  When you get certified, you join a growing community of supportive professionals and gain access to the resources you need to stay current and compliant.

The Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification requires three core courses, one transfer of credit and one year of weighted, related work experience. Please see the requirements for the completion order listed below.

  1. Payroll Compliance Legislation
  2. Payroll Fundamentals 1
  3. Payroll Fundamentals 2
  4. Introduction to Accounting (required transfer of credit; offered at Brighton College)
  5. PCP Work Experience Requirement Application (WERA) (a minimum of one year work experience in payroll is a requirement for certification)

All courses, including the Introduction to Accounting transfer of credit, require a passing grade of 65% in order to be accepted toward Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification.
