Staff

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Director of Operations and Student Affairs is responsible for overall campus operations as well as student affairs. This includes overseeing reception, facilities, IT, security and the health and safety of faculty, staff, and students, as well as student academic support, student life and career services. The Director will supervise staff across these various units and as necessary interact directly with students for the purposes of policy writing, collecting feedback, and providing general advocacy and support.

WORK WEEK:

The Employee will work 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 8:30AM-5:00PM (working remote for the time-being)

LOCATION:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-Secondary Education – minimum of Master’s Degree required.
  • Three to five years’ experience in an operations management position, preferably in a post-secondary community.
  • Comprehensive, demonstrated knowledge of the various student support structures in a post-secondary environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, experience communicating with non-native English speakers is preferred  
  • Excellent understanding of the programs and services provided by the College
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations
  • Supervise and manage Receptionists, Custodians and IT staff.
  • Ensure Reception policies and procedures are upheld;
  • Responsible for maintenance of campus’ basic physical needs, including authority to approve and address urgent repairs (e.g., leaks, broken furniture, etc.) in a timely and cost effective manner;
  • Manage good custodial care for the campus, including daytime and evening services;
  • Communicate relevant facility updates/notices to employees in a timely and consistent manner;
  • Inform employees about, and address issues pertaining to parking concerns at campus;
  • Manage contracts and service delivery of security providers;
  • Assist in preparing and submitting Operations Division reports on a term and annual basis to the Executive Committee
  • Ensure IT infrastructure is sufficient, functional, and developing proactively
  • Liaise regularly with IT about damaged equipment; make IT equipment purchases as needed
  • Participate on Health and Safety Committee, and ensuring that campus security and health measures are followed
Operations
  • Overseeing and providing direction based on research and best practices for the various student support services at the College including:
    • Health and wellness counselling (mental and physical wellbeing)
    • Academic Advising (internal and external course planning)
    • Student Life (campus culture and activities)
    • Career Services (workplace training and career counseling)
    • Office of Student Affairs (student advocacy, disability services, conduct)
  • Providing motivation and encouragement to students as appropriate to support their success.
  • Representing the College at various external functions and committees as relate to the scope of student support
  • Creating unit documents and reports to track and demonstrate effectiveness of student services
  • Overseeing general student satisfaction through various surveys and post-assessments
  • Working with staff and students to design programs to enhance campus culture
  • Promoting the programs and services of the College, including ongoing networking and participation in industry promotional events as required
  • Participate in hiring, conduct staff probation and performance reviews and as necessary reprimand across the various units of student services
  • Supervising and training staff in the offices of Campus Operations and Student Services

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Educational Advisor is responsible for responding to inquiries from potential students about various programs, providing counselling to help individuals clarify their employment goals and to identify the appropriate programs to meet these goals. The primary function of this position is to maximize each opportunity to promote/market and sell the programs of the College to potential students to meet or exceed the enrollment targets for the College. This position will provide motivation to students to ensure their success in the program, and also perform related administrative and reporting duties.

Instructors

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The purpose of the Instructor is to contribute to the academic success of students and to the success of the College in achieving its statement of purpose. Under general supervision, the instructor is responsible for providing instruction and facilitating student learning according to the prescribed curriculum.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Director of Academic Affairs/Campus Director

EMPLOYMENT TYPE:

Part-Time, Temporary

WORK WEEK:

This position requires the Instructor to work Monday to Friday from 9:00 am – 1:00pm approximately 20 hours a week.

LOCATION:

Primarily located at our Burnaby campus (working remotely for the time being)

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Degree, diploma or certification from a recognized university, college or institution relating to the area of instruction
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) from the Canadian Payroll Association must be completed and must be a current certified member of the association
  • At least 24 months experience in a related field
  • Instructional experience preferred and/or possession of instructor’s certificate / willingness to take additional instructional delivery workshop(s)
  • Approval by the Canadian Payroll Association prior to confirmation of teaching
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Relevant industry skills and knowledge relating to the area of instruction
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills, including presentation and group facilitation

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Course Delivery and Classroom Activities

  • Delivering instruction to students that meets course and program objectives as set out in the most current curriculum
  • Preparing lesson plans and teaching aids that utilize a variety of teaching methods which will promote the attainment of desirable goals of students
  • Being prepared for the start dates for each new course
  • Starting course(s) on the given date
  • Explaining the course outline to students on the first-class day
  • Administering and grading assignments, quizzes, and exams as necessary
  • Tracking student attendance on the prescribed report and returning to the administrative staff as required
  • Ensuring that the classrooms and equipment are kept in an orderly state
  • Maintaining and making available to students an email address and respond to student queries within 24 hours if possible (with the exception of weekends and statutory holidays)
  • Discussing students’ progress with them individually or as a group

Relationships with Students, Staff and Management

  • Refraining from fraternizing with students at a personal level.
  • Dealing with students, staff and other instructors in a professional, courteous and helpful manner
  • Alerting the administration of any student concerns which arise
  • Informing the administrative staff of any significant changes or problems that arise during a course
  • Assisting the Employment Coordinator and Program Coordinator in choosing suitable practicum / co-op hosts
  • Attending Instructors’ Meetings, as required
  • Possessing a clear understanding of and uphold the College’s policies and procedures relating to students and instructors
  • Cooperating with administration and Campus Directors in the performance of their duties
  • Completing and submitting required forms and records to administration in a timely manner
  • Giving the College sufficient notice of any upcoming absence

Course Updates and Development

  • Providing copies of modified assignments, quizzes, or exams, with marking keys to the administration.
  • Participating in the development and evaluation of curriculum and instructional materials, as required

Our green building design and construction program equips students with essential skills for pursuing a career in the fields of green building design, planning, construction and maintenance. Program curriculum will cover a contemporary range of building design strategies and technologies, with an emphasis on those that reduce environmental impacts and make local buildings healthier and more livable. The ideal candidate will be capable of teaching the following course:

  • CCT250 – Passive House and High-Performance Building Standards: This course will explore the technical, economic, and policy elements of Passive House buildings and building standards. Students will study why and how these standards leverage building architecture to minimize energy consumption and improve thermal comfort. Key topics include the evolution of these standards, their costs and benefits, and address site-specific energy forms, envelope assembly performance, energy consumption assessment, energy efficient ventilation system options, high performance heating and cooling systems, the selection of external shading devices, and the use of solar and renewable energy.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE FOR PASSIVE HOUSE INSTRUCTOR:

  • Degree or diploma in Architecture, Building Science, Engineering, Construction or related field of studies
  • At least 2 to 5 years of experience in Building Design or Architectural Design related fields
  • Previous instructional experience will be considered an asset
  • Excellent knowledge in Passive House Design and Building Envelope Design
  • Member of the Passive House Institute will be considered as an asset
  • Familiarity of the Canada Green Building Council Integrated Design Process
  • Able to demonstrate success in innovative or student-centered teaching techniques

Program curriculum will cover a contemporary range of building design strategies and technologies, with an emphasis on those that reduce environmental impacts and make local buildings healthier and more livable. The ideal candidate will be capable of teaching the following course:
  • LEE100 – LEED® Green Associate Exam Preparation: This course will equip students with the tools they need to prepare for the LEED® Green Associate Examination. During the lecture, students will gain knowledge to prepare for the examination and have practices on various exercises for the Green Associate Exam. Instructor will use a study guide, presentation slides including practice questions and guide students through assignments and preparatory examination modules.
  • LEE210 – LEED® Introduction and the Integrated Design Process: This course will help students develop their skills in setting up the LEED® Integrated Design Process and in using LEED® specific technical skills to complete and evaluate LEED® credit calculations. Topics include: Minimum Project Requirements (MPRs) for LEED® certification registration, selecting the appropriate LEED® Rating System based on project scope, and the use of the Integrated Design Process (IDP). The course will also cover the importance of establishing the LEED® project boundary and common terms and acronyms.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE FOR LEED INSTRUCTOR:

  • Degree or diploma in Architecture, Building Science, Engineering, Construction or related field of studies
  • At least 2 to 5 years of experience in Building Design or Architectural Design related fields
  • Previous instructional experience will be considered an asset

  • ARC300 – Building Energy Performance: This course will equip students with knowledge and skills to assess the energy performance and learn potential energy savings for buildings during the design, construction, and renovation stages of the projects. Topics include building performance analysis, energy literacy, building energy loads, climate and weather analysis, indoor comfort and environmental concerns, air leakage testing, solar energy measurement methods and various energy assessment strategies

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE FOR BUILDING ENERGY PERFORMANCE INSTRUCTOR:

  • Degree or diploma in Architecture, Building Science, Engineering, Construction or related field of studies
  • At least 2 to 5 years of experience in Building Design or Architectural Design related fields
  • Previous instructional experience will be considered an asset
  • Certified Energy Advisor (CEA) Credential
  • Familiarity of the Canada Green Building Council Integrated Design Process
  • Able to demonstrate success in innovative or student-centered teaching techniques
