At Brighton College we offer the CIFFA (Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association) courses as a crucial component of our International Trade Diploma Program. These specialized courses are available only once per year and are not offered as standalone courses. They provide targeted training in international transportation and freight forwarding, equipping you with the essential skills needed to excel in the global logistics industry.

The CIFFA portion of our International Trade Program begins June 3, 2024.

Course Breakdown

CIFF100 | CIFFA – International Transportation & Trade

This introductory course covers the basics of various modes of transportation, including truck, rail, air, and ocean. It also delves into the geography over which goods move and the Incoterms® 2010 rules, which outline the transfer of cost and risk from seller to buyer during transportation.
Course Highlights:

  • Modes of Transportation: Truck, rail, air, and ocean
  • Geography of Trade Routes: Key routes and logistics hubs
  • Incoterms® 2010: Rules for cost and risk transfer

Duration: 40 hours over 2 weeks
Prerequisite: None

CIFF200 | CIFFA – Essentials of Freight Forwarding

Building on the knowledge from CIFF100, this course covers the intricacies of freight forwarding. Learn how to manage risk with various international payment methods, understand cargo insurance, and complete commercial documents accurately. This course also addresses export packaging, cargo security, dangerous goods handling, and effective costing and quoting techniques.
Course Highlights:

  • Risk Management: International payments and cargo insurance
  • Commercial Documentation: Proper completion and usage
  • Export Packaging: Best practices for securing goods
  • Cargo Security: Ensuring the safety of shipments
  • Dangerous Goods: Handling and compliance
  • Costing and Quoting: Offering alternative solutions to clients

Duration: 60 hours over 3 weeks
Prerequisite: CIFFA100
