Accounting Careers Are Evolving. Here’s How to Get Ahead.
Accounting and payroll roles are the backbone of every organization. Whether it’s a small business or a multinational corporation, financial accuracy and compliance are non-negotiable. That’s why skilled accounting professionals are always in demand—and demand is growing. In fact, according to WorkBC, over 7,000 new job openings for accounting and related clerks are projected by 2029.
But today’s accounting roles require more than just number-crunching. Employers are looking for professionals who can use digital tools, understand business operations, and communicate financial insights effectively. That’s where Brighton College steps in.
Two Career-Ready Programs for Modern Accounting Jobs
Brighton College is a Certified Partner of the Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) and offers two streamlined, outcomes-focused programs:
-
Accounting and Payroll Certificate (17 weeks): This program equips students with foundational knowledge in accounting principles, payroll systems, and business communications. Graduates are prepared for roles such as bookkeeper, payroll clerk, accounting assistant, or tax preparer.
-
Computerized Accounting and Office Diploma (34 weeks): Designed for those who want to take their education further, this comprehensive program includes advanced accounting software training and a 4-week practicum to apply your skills in a real-world setting. Graduates often step into roles such as accounting manager, auditor, or billing coordinator.
Real Support for Real-World Careers
The programs at Brighton aren’t just about learning—they’re about launching your career. Joyce Shu is a perfect example.
“I got my accounting diploma in China 20 years ago and worked for several companies there,” Joyce says. “But after moving to Canada, I struggled to find employment. That’s when I decided to enroll at Brighton College.”
Joyce appreciated the hands-on training and mentorship she received, particularly from her employment coordinator, who helped her tailor her resume and sharpen her job search strategy. The support paid off: Joyce landed a role as a Billing Clerk at SDV Logistics right after her practicum ended.
“Brighton gave me the knowledge and confidence I needed to start fresh,” she says.
Why It Matters Now
As companies continue to digitize and automate financial processes, the job market is shifting. Employers are prioritizing candidates who can use modern accounting software, stay up-to-date with tax and payroll regulations, and adapt to evolving financial technologies.
Brighton College’s accounting programs are designed with these changes in mind. They don’t just teach theory—they give you the tools, experience, and confidence to succeed in today’s competitive job market.
Take the First Step Toward a Career That Counts
Whether you’re starting fresh or re-entering the workforce, Brighton College offers the right training and support to help you build a meaningful career in accounting. Both programs are available at the Burnaby campus, and graduates leave with more than a certificate or diploma—they leave with a clear path forward.
