Happy New Year and Welcome Back!

Share

It’s back to the grind for the students of Brighton College. For some of us winter break was full of late mornings and lazy afternoons. For others, like myself, the break was an opportunity to pick up more shifts at work. Working retail gave me an entirely new view of winter holidays and a deep appreciation for days off! Nevertheless, the winter holidays were a time of joy with friends and family.

Coming into the New Year, many of us create resolutions for ourselves. The most common resolutions being to drop some weight, eat better or study harder. Ever notice people seem to look down on “resolutioners” when we should actually be encouraging them? Kudos to you if you want to get up early to hit the gym before school! Or want to get a tutor, or get outdoors, etc. You eat that salad if it makes you happy! There’s nothing wrong with setting a goal for yourself in the New Year. If you have yet to create a resolution for yourself – do not fear! It’s never too late to want to change something. See the guideline on how to make a SMART goal on the right.

Now, you might be thinking, “What is your resolution, Breton?” and I am more than happy to share with you. It’s simple actually! Instead of making myself a mile long list of things I’d like to improve on this year (My eating habits, flossing more often, folding my laundry before it gets wrinkly… etc) I kept it short and sweet. Keep moving forward; keep taking little steps to better yourself in everything you do. If you know you shouldn’t eat that third chocolate bar, then don’t. I’m not going to punish myself if I fail, and there’s really no way to measure my progress, but at the end of the year when I look back, I’ll know I grew as a person. Maybe I studied for an hour longer, or my run was a little further, but it’s all little steps in the right direction, and that’s what is important to me! Of course I also vowed to have more adventures this year! Someone once said “Don’t go chasin’ waterfalls” but I think I’ll continue to do so in 2015! Happy New Year to everyone at Brighton!
