The AutoCAD Technician program emphasizes hands-on construction practices and computer-aided drafting and design techniques for buildings and civil infrastructure. Design, drafting, and construction methods will be taught via lecture, in-class activities, and site visits to the field. Topics covered include current building construction practices, civil infrastructure construction standards, and the use of computer-aided design and drafting software (including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Sketch Up)–ensuring that students acquire the knowledge, skills, and competencies required for them to enter the industry.
Diploma
35 Weeks with Practicum or 31 Weeks w/o Practicum
4-week Practicum
This program emphasizes practical hands-on construction practices in building and civil infrastructures. All aspects of design, drafting and construction methods are taught in lecture format augmented by on-site field visits. Instruction in the current building construction practices, civil infrastructure construction standards and current computer drafting technologies ensure students will have the knowledge, skills and competency to enter this labour force immediately upon graduation.
After graduation, students are primarily suitable for employment in local construction firms, with contractors, engineering and/or architecture companies. Employment opportunities and further studies may be pursued in civil engineering, building science, architecture and computer-aided design.
Upon completion of the Construction CAD program the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:
