One of Vancouver’s most popular events returns to light up the night sky this coming Saturday, July 28! This year, the Celebration of Light will feature outstanding firework displays from countries Vietnam, Brazil and Italy competing for the winning title. The Celebration of Light festival is not only one of Vancouver’s biggest events, but also the largest offshore fireworks competition in the world, attracting up to 400,000 spectators to English Bay for the show! Yikes!
Fireworks aside, the festival also features Shorefest,
with performances from some of Canada’s hottest artists on two stages at Sunset Beach and English Bay on all 3 firework nights with some artists getting the party started as early as 1:00 PM. It’s a great idea to grab a blanket and head down to the water early to secure a seat, and enjoy some of the great live music as you anticipate the show.
With the fireworks being so spectacularly huge, there are a number of observation spots to choose from for enjoying the show. Some popular viewing spots include English Bay, Sunset Beach, Kits Beach, Vanier Park and even as far as Jericho Beach and Spanish Banks!
The organizers have done a great job with the Celebration of Light website – with all details, maps, parking details and transit option information explained. This year, the public can also vote for their favourite country display though a downloadable mobile app, so don’t forget to cast your vote! Fireworks start at 10:00 PM sharp on all firework days, July 28th, August 1st and August 4th.
Who do you think will win the competition this year and what do you base your guess on? Join the conversation on Twitter or vote in our Facebook poll. With Brazil’s reputation for being a party place, I’m sure they won’t disappoint!
