Project Management Certificate (Blended)


The Project Management Certificate equips students with a strong theoretical and practical foundation in professional project management. Students will learn proven principles and techniques for starting, controlling, managing, and completing projects, and will apply project management strategies and contemporary tools to real world scenarios. In addition, students will study the fundamentals of risk management, cultivate professional leadership techniques, and practice effective teamwork strategies – all crucial areas of knowledge for a successful project manager.

Towards the end of their studies, students will also receive rigorous preparation for the exam component of the Certified Associate in Project Management® (CAPM®) and/or Project Management Professional® (PMP®) certifications, as offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI®).

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be better prepared for employment in a project management role in a variety of industries. In addition, individuals who go on to pass the CAPM® and/or PMP® exams and achieve all other certification requirements listed by the Project Management Institute® may acquire an internationally-recognized credential that can help them advance their existing careers or stand out from the competition during a job search.

Program Delivery Structure

  • Full-time: 20 hours per week: 10 hours on-site + 10 hours distance
  • Part-time: 10 hours per week: 5 hours on-site + 5 hours distance

Admission Requirements

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) or mature student status;
  • Domestic students: Grade 10 English or pass college English assessment; International students: IELTS 6.0 proof (or equivalent) or pass college English assessment
  • Self-assessment of readiness for online/distance learning

BAF400B | Project Management Fundamentals*
This course provides students with a strong foundational knowledge in project management, including project management practices, functions, phases, terminology, and common issues. Students will develop a functional understanding of the processes involved in starting, controlling, managing, and completing a project successfully. Students will also gain practical experience using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project software for project management. Students are required to undertake and earn a passing mark for their major project in this course.

Duration: 60 hours, 3 weeks.

Prerequisite: none.
BAF440B | Project Teamwork & Leadership
This course focuses on team dynamics, leadership, and building the skills required to achieve goals while working in a diverse group. Students will complete a team project and in the process practice successful communication strategies, goal definition, schedule coordination, peer feedback, and conflict management. Additional course topics include learning styles, diversity, appreciating differences, and ethical behavior in teams.

Duration: 40 hours, 2 weeks.

Prerequisite: none.
BAF450B | Project Risk Management
This course will help build student competences in assessing and identifying project risks, mitigating project threats, and capitalizing on project opportunities. The domains explored will be those contained in the PMI-RMP (Risk Management Professional) Examination: Risk Strategy and Planning, Stakeholder Engagement, Risk Process Facilitation, Risk Monitoring and Reporting, and Perform Specialized Risk Analyses.

Duration: 40 hours, 2 weeks.

Prerequisite: BAF400B.
BAF500B | Project Management Capstone
Building upon what they learned in previous project management courses, students will manage a simulated project in small teams. Key competencies include, but are not limited to, managing the project’s schedule and resources, reporting project status updates, and effectively utilizing Microsoft Project 2013. At the end of the course, student teams will submit a report and give a presentation that summarizes their project experience and lessons learned

Duration: 60 hours, 3 weeks.

Prerequisite: BAF400B, BAF440B, BAF450B.
BAF410B | CAPM®/PMP® Exam Preparation
This course prepares students to take the Certified Associate in Project Management® (CAPM®) exam and/or the Project Management Professional® (PMP®) exam, as offered by the Project Management Institute® (PMI®). Students will become familiar with the exam topics by subject and knowledge area, and gain rigorous experience in answering review questions for each topic.

Duration: 40 hours, 2 weeks.

Prerequisite: BAF400B.

This program is delivered in a blended format and is run on an intermittent intake model. Students must start the program with BAF400B (indicated with ‘*’). They may then complete the remaining courses in any order, unless there is a prerequisite. Refer to Course Descriptions for prerequisites. Students have the option of completing the program either on a fulltime (F/T) or part-time (P/T) schedule.
